The Mysteries of The Virgo and the Virgin
by david on May.17, 2009, under Astrology
The esoteric side of Virgo is all wrapped up in the Christ Consciousness which has been permeating the Earth since the beginning of the Piscean Age. Virgo is the reflex action of the Piscean Wave or maybe an inner harmonic. As we have progressed or regressed thru the Age, depending on your predilection, the Virgoan counterpoint has concretized the great mystical movements into compartmentalizations. These are the dogmas of the great religions. Spiritual impulses have become ritualized and then religions have formed as the impulse to a raised planetary vibration has reverberated through the human species or civilization. Only in very few instances have humans resisted the impulse to religion and maintained their spiritual practices. In the Esoteric sense Virgo is the urge the Great Mother has to shield or protect the hidden Christ. In the Exoteric sense the Harvest is the out come of the impulse to individualization. The Woman with the shafts of wheat is the common Cosmic Image we are given from the ancients. The time of harvest is the Virgoan time in the Northern Hemisphere and the image is obvious to the Agrarian Civilizations which have arisen and fallen in this Age. Great Images have withered to give birth to others as step by step mankind has drawn nearer and nearer to a quantum leap into the void of space and time indicated by the culmination of a Great Cycle. The Greeks saw this Era as a harvest of sorts as their symbolism indicates. The Christians see this as the Harvest of perfected souls in the Armageddon which they believe will culminate with the end of this Age. The Hindus call it the Kali Yuga. Just what is the implication of the Sign in terms of Human behavior? First, the Vestal Virgin is not a celibate! She is sexual but not procreative. When she does procreate she looses her status and becomes the Great Mother who blesses the world with the fruit of her labor. She doles out her bounty according to the Natural Law of the Earth. Virgo is the Impeccable One! Her Harvest is an indisputable bounty! She is absolute in her richness as well as in her eternal renewal. As the power of the Sun begins to wane in the Northern Hemisphere, the plant kingdom prepares for the onslaught of the Winter by laying down it’s seeds in order to perpetuate life. It is here when Civilization in the North realizes its fate and fortune. Virgo is the time of accounting. The work of the harvest, the backbreaking labor in the fields takes on the sacred context of assurance. Mankind can face the hard winter when the Harvest is in and accounted for and a time of prediction or forward looking is eminent. Of the Human signs of the Zodiac ( Gemini, Aquarius, and Virgo ) only Aquarius is beyond the earth realm having to do with the Heavens. Gemini is truly human representing the male and female duality in many species but Virgo is the Earth in the role of the great Nurturer. I see Virgo as dualistic like all of the mutable signs are supposed to be. Esoterically, Virgo didn’t affect humanity in Lemurian times because Humanity wasn’t in its’ present form as we know it. Humanity was androgynous! I see Virgo as still an Androgynous figure containing both male and female but outwardly female and hiding or shielding the male component within. I see this as an analogy of the literal earth. Crust on the outside protecting the atomic fire within. Yin obscuring Yang! I see this as the Great Mystery of the Life of this planet. The metaphysics of the planet leads us to understand a key to the release of potential in a magnetic sense. I see the polarity of the Mutable Cross as Neutral which encompasses both positive and negative electrical charge in a whirling field of a whirling source. More later!

The Astrological ideas I am sharing with you come from 45 years of experience and yet there is much to learn. When I picked up Llewellyn George’s A to Z Horoscope Maker and Delineator I didn’t realize that this would be a lifetime of work on top of everything else I was doing. I have given my 1962 edition away and still have a 1973 edition which I reference from time to time, still. It is still foundational for me even though I have my own take on some things and outright disagree with others.
I have wanted to write a degree interpretation book for years but am still hooked on Mark Jone’s Sabian Symbols and Rudhyar’s Astrological Mandella. Especially Dane Rudhyar! I have used his system to make some incredible discoveries. Symbolism is fascinating to me! I have come to understand that human beings communicated in symbols long before spoken words. Colors, shapes, textures, and just plain ol marks on a stick still communicate faster than verbalization. And I am a Talker! Astrological symbolism is rich and deep! Is ancient and predates most of our so called civilizations. The language of genius and intuition. When reduced to words almost trivialized. Take Aries for instance the symbol can resemble the curling horns of the ram, the first plant shoots of spring or the breaching of a whale in the ocean. It can imply from the source outward. The connection of the organism with the outer world. The breath of life. On and On! It is the first sign of the zodiac ( which is depicted as a circle with no beginning or end ) only because presence is necessary to define. Beginning and ending are one and the same, in truth. You’ve got to start somewhere and in the Northern Hemisphere the spring is the first visible manifestation of life on the surface. The sprout breaking through the earth. The deeper meaning of Aries lies within the mystery of the force of the Earth herself. More later!
